Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor also owns 90% of Lyon, who have qualified for the Europa League. Lyon's successful appeal against relegation to Ligue 2 has put Palace's hopes of participating in the Europa League at risk. This could be a devastating blow for the club, as participating in the competition provides significant benefits.
Textor owns 43% of Crystal Palace and is awaiting a decision from UEFA regarding the club's participation in the Europa League. Despite the uncertainty surrounding both clubs, Textor claims not to be thinking about the issue, as he believes he does not have decisive influence over Crystal Palace.
Textor explained, "I'll admit to not even thinking about the issue. But I also read the rule. The rule is very clear. If you have decisive influence, you may need to consider this. I don't. I didn't." He further added, "If I had decisive influence, I would have been trying to sell the club back in June 2024."
Although Textor has since sold his shares in the Premier League side, Crystal Palace is expected to be demoted to the Conference League if Lyon's spot in the Europa League is confirmed. However, the decision ultimately rests with UEFA, and they may allow the side to compete in the Europa League if they believe Textor's influence is minimal.
