"I was unsure whether to pass the ball or shoot on goal because the goalkeeper was close to me," Calafiori said after the game.
"We're disappointed, especially because we came back from behind. I liked our reaction in the second half, and I think we deserved to win," he added.
Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, had told the team to focus on winning individual duels before playing their game.
"We dominated the game, but lost points due to a single action," Calafiori explained.
Sunderland's goals marked the first time Arsenal had conceded in nine games.
Calafiori expressed his pride in the team's defensive line, stating that they do a good job regardless of who plays.
He emphasized the importance of focusing on the next game, which will be challenging, and staying top of the league.
